Home sweet home!

An Imperfect Holiday Season

Olivia and Travis at Christmas 2018

I stumbled across this photo of Olivia and Travis from last Christmas and as they say — all the feels. This photo was taken on Christmas morning at my beautiful #wfwhitehouse. My caption on Instagram referenced how this very morning brought all my ideas of what this house would be together. From day one, I envisioned the gathering of people in this home. I envisioned Christmas mornings and the family that would eventually fill its rooms. I remember being so happy and so content on this Christmas morning.

Thanksgiving & Traditions

Bryant Family at Thanksgiving

My family has always celebrated Thanksgiving on the Sunday before the actual holiday. This year, I hosted it at my house, and I moved it up a week so that Olivia and Travis could be with us.

As I crumble the cornbread on Sunday morning, getting that first pan ready for the oven, I’m caught up in my thoughts of tradition and memories from childhood. It was always my job to crumble the cornbread and it feels like second nature as I do it again, all these years later. The crumbs feel so familiar between my fingers.

Halloween 2019 w/2 Kiddos

Halloween 2019 at hellopamelajo

I decorated for Halloween for the first time in years. I realized as I was hanging strands of purple and orange lights that this act of going all out on something unnecessary was giving me life. In the past, I’d mainly decorated in excess when there was a party to be had or it had some sort of purpose. Today, my house looks like it came from the set of Transylvania and there’s no party or event on the agenda. I wasn’t even planning on being here for trick or treaters! I can’t say that I pulled out all of these ghouls and goblins because of neighborly peer pressure either. No one else on my street even had a pumpkin out until recently!

Moving & Photos from Light + Free Folk

100 yr old house living room

Back when I first bought #wfwhitehouse in all it’s outdated glory, the insanely talented Abigail Berry with Light + Free Folk reached out and offered to take some photos of the finished product for me, and I looked forward to this throughout the entire renovation. She shared my vision for that old house and could see its potential just like I could. From the very beginning, I dreamed about the fresh flowers I’d buy and scatter about for these photos. Everything would be decorated so beautifully and I’d probably do these photos right before I invited all of you in to see the big reveal.

Home for Now

Louisiana Outside

I announced my big move from #wfwhitehouse last month and one of the things I didn’t mention was where I was headed next. Thankfully, I had just finished remodeling another little house in West Monroe so I had somewhere to go. It was my 7th house to remodel in 2.5 years. (I’ve done 8 total.) I had just finished it and posted a “coming soon” notice on my Facebook when I got the final news that I would indeed be selling my beautiful, old white house. I pulled it from the listing que and decided to just hold on to it for a bit. My intention had been to sell this one and yet if I needed somewhere to move quickly, this would be a good spot.

Moving From #WFWhiteHouse

Kitchen - RefrigeratorI sat there on a Saturday and I cried. It was the day after I got the unofficial news that I would indeed be moving. Everything was lining up as it should to make this unexpected deal work out for everyone involved. It wouldn’t be a “done deal” for a few more weeks, though verbal agreements were made and things were falling in to place.

Making It Work

Moving Boxes at #wfwhitehouseOne thing that I’m really good at is making something out of nothing. It probably stems from not having a choice most of my life. I can remember my mom saving everything. Every single thing. There was never a scrap piece of wood or fabric too small. If there was a remote chance that it could be used for a future project, we kept it. I still do this. Continue reading

I’ll Be Moving Soon

Reflections of the bridgeI’ll be moving soon. I’ll be packing up and starting to live in this beautiful new house that I’ve worked so tirelessly on. I’m excited about it. I’m excited about my new, old house and everything it represents. I’m excited about a fresh start and about all the new memories that’ll be built in that place. And I’m also sad to leave where I am now.

All About the Original Wood Floors

Living Room FloorLiving Room Before and DuringLet’s talk flooring today. One of the selling points of this house was its original hard wood flooring that was throughout most of the house. Knowing that we could hopefully salvage these old floors both added to the house’s character and saved a big hit on the budget. For a brief moment, I thought we’d rehab those old floors ourselves and we rather quickly gave up that DIY dream!

#wfwhitehouse Early August Update

An outside view of progressIt’s starting to look like someone might be planning to live here! The front of the house has a coat of primer which is a great sneak peek at what it’s going to look like with fresh paint. Not to mention all of the freshly trimmed trees and vegetation. It’s looking more like a cozy home than an abandoned piece of history now. You can turn into the driveway without fear of scratching your car and another burn pile of limbs and such has been burned. That’s progress, folks!
