Setting goals & making big things happen.

Goals that aren’t goals.

I’ve always been a big goal setter. There’s a whole section here where I used to publish them publicly. I set yearly goals, monthly goals, goals for work, goals for play. I set a goal to set goals!

The last several years have been a bit of a struggle though. From floods and divorce to moving a ton and remarrying and being pregnant/having a newborn and building a house and caring for my mom and losing my mom……

My goal has often been to just make it to the next day. To not crumble under the pressure of it all.

Regroup and Reimagine

Pamela at Rise

Lately, I’ve been thinking about the routines and good habits I’d formed pre-pandemic and just how many of those have fallen to the wayside. I’ve been thinking about which ones I need to get back to so that I feel like my old self again. Some of them, no matter how bad I want them, seem impossible. Some of them feel pretentious in times like these, like launching my podcast. Some things, like building a cool cabin on our new property, seem rather daunting when I’m still not organized here at #magnoliaridgeLA.

My Favorite Productivity Tip

to do notebook

It’s no secret that I don’t “let any grass grow beneath my feet” and this means I have no time for extra clutter and things have to stay mostly in order for me to be as productive as I am. As a matter of a fact, one of the main questions I get from other people working to do big things is — “how do you do it all?”

This is a big question. There are hundreds of big and small things that help me do so much and today’s little tip is an easy one to implement that makes a big difference. The mantra is — touch it once.

5 Goals for March

tulips at Kiroli Park

Once upon a time, I set monthly goals and shared them here online. I haven’t done that since 2016.

On Monday, I found myself thinking about the start of the new month and all the many things I’ve been working on lately. I decided to write down a few goals for this new month and then thought I’d share them here, for old time’s sake. And maybe for accountability.

3 Easy Habits to Start Now

February 2020

When I came back from Rise, I was inspired to do better. I mainly felt convicted around health and wellness because this was an area I’d been sitting on the back burner for so long. I also felt a little attacked about wasting my morning hours. It was hard for me to not try to enhance all of my habits at once, so I picked a few small things to work on first.

Since we’re wrapping up the first month of the year and most of us have already abandoned our New Year’s resolutions, I thought I’d share these simple hacks I’ve been doing for the last few weeks. These are super easy to do and don’t require major life change. The idea, however, is to build a little momentum that could nudge us along to bigger changes.

Doing More and Less

Impromptu Christmas Photo

I didn’t intend to be a spokesperson for simple living this holiday season. It just sort of happened. I often share my own journey and discoveries online with my community and this year, as I settled in to a simpler way of doing things, I accidentally encouraged other women to do the same.

It wasn’t an easy transition. It was intentional. When I felt the holiday stress and anxiety bubbling up inside, I forcefully pushed it away. It was an intentional decision everyday to just be present in the moment and to do my best for that day.

Drawing Your Goals for 2020

2017 Goal Drawings

Since we’re approaching a new year, a time when people set goals and make plans, I thought I’d share with you one of the most powerful goal setting techniques I’ve used.

I first heard about this strategy from my former mentor, Christie Wheeler. Christie was one of the most brilliant women and I was captivated by her drive to learn and grow. I credit her as being one of the main people who turned me on to the personal growth arena. Christie shared this video with me before her passing, and I’m going to share it with you guys today. If any of you knew Christie, especially in the real estate world, this video is what prompted her to draw the poster of her vision for our local KW office. It hung in her office and she would tell you that this drawing escalated the growth of our local market center.

One Little Word: Elevate

Red Rock Canyon Mojave Desert

I didn’t pick a “one little word” for 2018 or 2019 and if I did, it would have been SURVIVE. It’s pretty much impossible to focus on growth when you’re just working to keep the pieces together. I hadn’t really thought about coming back to this little technique and then suddenly, a word for 2020 hit me.

I was pulling into the Hobby Lobby parking lot and listening to a podcast when this little word stood out to me like it was spoken directly to me.

2009 vs 2019

2009 vs 2019 in photos

In 2009, I was fresh from college, working as the Technology Marketing Director at the Monroe-West Monroe Convention & Visitors Bureau. I was juggling this full time job and launching my store on Antique Alley in my spare time. When I think about how much has went down in these 10 years, I’m blown away. I also love how much of this is chronicled here in this online space.
